Officer shot in downtown Davis, suspect at large

DAVIS — Authorities are searching for a suspect who shot a female police officer in downtown Davis on Thursday night.

The shooting occurred around 7 p.m., when the officer went to investigate a report of a three-vehicle crash near 5th and D streets, according to Davis police Lt. Paul Doroshov.

“As she was investigating it, for some reason shots rang out,” Doroshov told reporters. “She was struck.”

The officer was transported to the UC Davis Medical Center, where she was listed in serious condition, Doroshov said.

The suspect was described as a white man in his 20s with an average build. He was last seen wearing a baseball cap, black jacket, blue or tan jeans and black tactical boots.

Downtown businesses have been locked down as officers search for the suspect, according to the Enterprise.

“If you live here, please stay in your house,” Doroshov said. “If you don’t live here and you’re thinking about coming to central Davis right now, please don’t. It’s very dynamic. We have a lot of law enforcement here and we still have somebody that is out there that’s dangerous.”

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the shooting or has information about the suspect’s whereabouts to call 911.
